Lady Gaga performs live Poker Face with Kid Cudi for the opening of The Monster Ball Tour that stopped off in Montreal. While many feel (as well as I) that Lady Gaga is very "out there" I do like a lot of her music and think she is shaking up the music industry and makes it quite interesting. Needless to say her performances at the award shows leave everyone talking the morning after (including me).

I was talking with a friend a week or so ago and the topic of Janelle Monae came up and how she is really just an amazing performer. (I STILL WANT TO SEE HER LIVE...*sigh*) I was asked if I saw how she not only can moonwalk backwards but also FORWARDS..my reply "NO WAY MAN". so I had to go look for myself. I am always just so amazed when I watch her videos that I don't think I ever noticed (SHAME ON ME.. Dear J.M. please forgive me!) If she isn't from the planet she has got to be one of the coolest aliens ever!

NEW MOVIE: BOOK OF ELI - DENZEL WASHINGTON
This looks interesting! I hope it's better than the Taking of Pellham 123 - I didn't care for that movie, seeing I fell asleep in it 3 times. Book of Eli is scheduled for a release Jan. 10, 2010 is the newest motion picture from the Hughes Brothers' Camp. The dynamic duo are known for several efforts - most notably Dead Presidents and Menace II Society. The Book of Eli stars some of Hollyweirds heavy hitters (other the face on the poster Denzel) Mila Kunis (voice of Meg Griffin on Family Guy and Jackie on That 70's Show), Gary Oldman (Sirius Black - in the Harry Potter series and James Gordon in the Dark Knight) and Jennifer Beals (Flashdance, The L word and recently a regular on the Fox series Lie To Me)A little piece of Trivia - Denzel preformed all of his own stunts and was trained in martial arts by Bruce Lee's protégé Dan Inosanto.

I MISS: KELIS
I miss Kelis. Not the make up to break up with hubby bubby Nas. I miss Kelis - N.E.R.D.'esque blonde faded to a bright pink (yes I dyed my hair this color before and it was HOT...then I grew up lol) not quite understood and musically under appreciated Kelis circa the year 2000. Her first album Kaleidoscope was a heavily slept on CD. I was in college in ATL (CLARK ATLANTA people STAND UP) and was in love with her and only a few people shared my excitement for her music. Most thought she was crazy due to her first single I hate you so much right now. I thought it was genuis! The video, the song's concept spoke to me...call me angry but *shrug* I am sure we all can relate to what she was talking about. I revisit her first cd on a occasion and I am never disappointed and have grown to love and appreciate and understand it as the years pass. I suggest if you have not looked at the first CD Kaleidoscope in awhile (or ever..shame) then sit and listen to it...good music never dies..hence while we all still listen to Lauryn Hill (tear...that's a whole other blog). I decided to add two of my favorites from her freshman effort. Enjoy...And Dear Kelis..please come back and bring Lauryn with you...Please..I'll be your best friend (just don't tell Shené)

MUSIC MONDAYS: NO JAY-Z OR POP FOR MILEY

Rihanna: Te Amo?
So...I have a copy of the new CD from Rihanna and I am not ready to do a full evaluation of her CD - however I will say after a few half hearted listens I am not all that impressed (sigh-I expected a lot more after all the hype). There was only one song that has caught my attention immediately and that is Te Amo (I love you in spanish). The thing is the beat and the music gets me that everytime I listen the only words I hear are the infectious repetitive Te Amo. Ok so she is talking bout she love someone or someone loving her - no big deal. Welp lol I was talking to a friend about it and told them I really hadn't listened to the lyrics yet because the music arrangement (latin, regge, r&b feel) was somewhat hypnotic lol - but I knew I needed to listen when I heard her say something about Te amo she said to me. WAIT.. rewind!! -----> She said? Yes She said.. Well I dug a little further and it seems the song is stirring up some controversy. Ehh- s'ok I was thinking this might mean something ..until I found out she doesn't write her music...any of it #FAIL. Don't get me wrong I know there are lot of artists that use other people's words..but at some point I am going to need you to express yourself.. just my thoughts. Now that I know that Ri-Ri has not wrote any of the music on her album..or any of them----it kinda takes the validity of it away. Like when we all first heard Russian Roulette - thought wow...she is going through it.. po'thing. But umm Neyo wrote that...nice song Neyo.Well listen to the song below and tell me what you think...if you think anything.

I love me some John Mayer. Forget he is the supposed Playboy to the Hollywood Lady Stars, if we get passed that, his music is beautiful. The raspy tone that his voice produces when he sings always gets my attention and his songs generally make me think, not just bob my head or sway my hips. He had me at Hello lol. If you are one of the few who hasn't given this singer the time a day..QUICK stop what you are doing and just listen to a few of his tunes.. I mean really listen and you will see that his vocal talent is just the surface of his artistry.MeaLee

I got this video from one of my tweeples (person we talk to on twitter) Sketchbug. I must say the few times I watched the Taking The Stage an MTV reality show based at the School for Creative and Performing Arts in Cincinnati, Ohio, Mia was the main one I was interested in watching. Not because she shares a variation of my name (smile) but because she is really talented and when she won big talent show I felt out of the people they showed, she deserved to. I hope we get to hear more from her. Watch the video and lyrically and musically she is very talented!
