COLUMBUS EATS: BODEGA

Late night food usually means greasy, fast, and really fattening. I'm busy with work and class 'till sometimes after 10 or 11 p.m., so i've been working harder to find good late-night grub.

Tonight I would like to highlight Bodega in downtown Columbus on the corner of 3rd and High. Located in the Short North neighborhood, the crowd is varied and lively.

What makes Bodega special beyond good late night food is their 50 beers on tap. They also have a fabulous monday night special on grilled cheese with chips and a pickle for only $1! Add a cup of tomato soup and mmm mmm mmm! Lastly, I took home the warm Nutella and strawberry croissant. I'm full, warm, and I didn't spend much at all.

Check out their food menu HERE, and their ever-changing tap list at the bar.

INSOMNIA COOKIES

Craving a warm and possibly gooey treat late at night? Look no further than our local franchise of Insomnia Cookies in Columbus at 1878 N. High St.

Insomnia Cookies offers many flavors of cookies and brownies, including some custom options served warmed to order. Try any flavor from Chocolate Chunk, M&M, Snickerdoodle, and Peanut Butter.

Most often near major college campuses, they even offer late night delivery in their pizza-style cardboard box to those within the campus.

College age or not, I recommend picking up some Chocolate Chunk cookies next time you get a craving for some sinfully good chocolate goodies.

BLAKstar Feature: Going Down The QUEEN's Highway

Hear Ye, Hear Ye... You are about to enter the royal court of the Queen. J'Hanna Appleby Principal Sytlist for Queen's is here to take your royal tresses to the next level. Not only is she a skilled hair stylist but she is a hilarious, fun, talented and intelligent woman. I know the first few lines sound very much like an advertisement or a sales pitch, and maybe it is [Shrug] but if you know me, if you know BLAKstar then you know that when we love something, WE WILL TELL YOU (in a hearbeat). J$ (pronounced J- money lol) as I tend to call her is a natural born entrepreneur and is more than good or above average at what she does. Queen's is one of the many businesses she has developed. You may be asking why we decided to feature her... is it because Shené gets the royal treatment whenever she sits in Queen's chair [YES], is it because we feel she has taken her talents and has found her purpose and is fulfilling it [YES], is it because she is a beautiful and smart woman with a go getter attitude that we feel all our young ladies should look up to [YES]. I encourage you to look at her site - there are photos, list of services and helpful hints via the Queen's Counsel to help you with your hair at home. There is a lot to J$, but why listen to me ramble on..I will let her tell you a little more about herself.

CONCERT: JAY-Z IN COLUMBUS, OHIO

On October 28, 2009 the highly anticipated Jay-z concert was welcomed with open arms. It was an overwhelming concert especially after speculation that he wasn't going to make it since he was suppose to be the opening act in Game 1 of the World Series. The concert was phenomenal! Young Simba,  J.Cole was the opening act, then Walé graced the stage bringing the DMV (D.C., Maryland, Virginia) love. N.E.R.D definitely spazzed out and Jay-Z gave us joints from Reasonable Doubt to Blueprint 3 accompanied by Memphis Bleek. All the artist did a great job including our city in their lyrics and making references to being a Buckeye. The main feeling that I left with from the concert was INSPIRATION! Jay-Z performed "Empire State of Mind" with the city of Columbus on the jumbotron behind him. He also performed "So Ambitious" with Pharrell. His main message was to always go after your dreams and I know the audience was embracing it. This was one of the greatest concerts and here are a couple pictures of the experience.

See more pictures after the jump...
