D4L..on BLAKstar Tonight
Dance4Life works with young adults between the ages of 13-25 to help raise awareness for HIV/AIDS through unique school iniatives and concerts that bring together youth in a challenging and exciting way. Rather then being an organization that solely promotes AIDS awareness, Dance4Life promotes Action against Aids, and mobilizes young adults to get involved in the process and actually learn about the risks surrounding it. The organization currently operates in over 20 countries and growing and has amassed a large following. Young adults have really connected with the organization because of its feel good nature even in dealing with such a serious issue as the AIDS virus. Young adults find that with Dance4Life, they can be themselves, help to raise awareness among their peers, and dance while doing so! It doesn’t matter if you are from Rwanda or Rio De Janeiro because when it comes to Dance4liFE, movement is something we can all understand.
Hannah Bezeredi began the D4L Columbus group has a volunteer project after she read an article about their work. She was inspired by the organization because of their unique ability to connect with young adults and to relate to them in such a profound way. She has volunteered for the project for over 5 months now and has grown the grassroots movement for D4L to include an event planning committee, a network of artists, and a host of professionals from the Columbus community. She would like to conclude her project with D4L by the end of this year and begin work her own nonprofit organization. She is a student of International relations and an avid supporter of the arts in Columbus
Shareena has taken her music minor from Otterbein College and turned it into a major application towards the Midwest music scene. After years of worldwide traveling in a live hip-hop group, she realized she wanted to do more with her God-given talents. Shareena started coordinating for non-profit organizations as well as events tailored specifically for giving back to the community. She now brings that experience, energy, and passion to the D4L Columbus movement. Shareena believes that through the self-expression of the arts, awareness can be raised and empowerment can begin.
