J.D. SALINGER, AUTHOR, DIES
Author of iconic novel "Catcher in the Rye" and a number of highly praised short stories, J.D Salinger died at the age of 91.
If you haven't read Catcher, which is very rare, then I suggest you add it to your list. Considered a coming of age story, the novel follows anti-hero Holden Caulfield through the "phony" world.
Salinger, though well known in the literary world, choose to hide himself away after much of his success in the early years of his career. Living much of his life as somewhat of a recluse, he is one of modern literature's most unknown personas.
"I hope to hell that when I do die somebody has the sense to just dump me in the river or something. Anything except sticking me in a goddam cemetary. People coming and putting a bunch of flowers on your stomach on Sunday, and all that crap. Who wants flowers when you're dead? Nobody." - Catcher in the Rye, J.D. Salinger

NEW: APPLE iPad
Today apple unveiled another new gadget, the "iPad." Basically a cross between a giant iPod Shuffle, Kindle, and basic computer, the iPad has many functions.
The iPad will be set to go in March for Wi-Fi models, and April of this year for the 3G models, but will be bringing a hefty price tag with it. Prices start at $499, but that is only for the most basic model.I personally think they could have added a webcam for video chatting, picked a better name, and of course, lowered the price a bit.

Well it's official. Conan O'Brien is leaving NBC. Upon his exit from "The Tonight Show," Conan made a $45 million deal. $33 million of that goes directly to O'Brien, while the rest will be divided between his 200 member staff.

THE HOO DOO SOUL BAND
Local Columbus music lovers come together every Sunday night 10pm - 2am at Rumba Cafe ( 2507 Summit St.) to see The Hoo Doo Soul Band play a selection of funk, reggae, rock, and of course, soul. I saw them last Sunday and the house was packed with a variety of people who came to dance and enjoy. I went to see the show because a friend of mine plays drums with them now.
The band formed originally in 1995 from a group of local veteran players. Over the years the band has added and lost members along the way, but always stayed true to the soul. In 1999 they received the award "Best Cover Band" from Columbus Music Awards, and Best Live Performance in 2000. Hoo Doo opened for James Brown and Ray Charles in 2002.
To see what its all about, stop by Rumba on an upcoming Sunday night at you will not be let down.

Golden Globes Fashion Report
As far as awards shows go, I am often most interested in the fashion. Sometimes we wonder not "Who are you wearing?", but "Why are you wearing that?"
First, Jane Adams' (HBO series "Hung") dress is not too bad, but her face seems to say it all...like she was dragged to the Globes against her will.
Second, Sandra Bullock looks ready for the prom in this purple

TEDDY PENDERGRASS PASSES AWAY AT 59
Teddy Pendergrass, who became R&B's reigning sex symbol in the 1970s and '80s with his forceful, masculine voice and passionate love ballads and later became an inspirational figure after suffering a devastating car accident that left him paralyzed, died Wednesday at age 59. The singer's son, Teddy Pendergrass II, said his father died at a hospital in suburban Philadelphia. The singer underwent colon cancer surgery eight months ago and had "a difficult recovery," his son said. "To all his fans who loved his music, thank you," his son said. "He will live on through his music."

YELE HAITI (SCREAM HAITI)
If you have not been paying attention to the news, internet, people talking, if you have been sleep then maybe you have not heard that yesterday a major earthquake (7.0 on the Richter Scale) has rocked the western hemisphere's poorest country Haiti. Our prayers go out to the families, the people and the country of Haiti, but at this time they need help! Many countries and organizations are giving relief to help an already economically depressed country, get involved! Even if it's only sending $5, I know the world economy is weak and our pockets maybe empty but it's time to lend a helping hand; as one poet (AP) whom I admire greatly says "Be mindful that we are all - in some form or fashion - connected"

Myspace is offering a free listen to the entire album and Amazon is selling the full album for only $3.99 today. I am only three tracks into the CD and at this point can't say I am impressed *blank stare*. The first three have pretty cool beats but I was once told there is more to a song then the beat. With that said the first three songs leave a lot more to be desired (just my opinion). We shall see lol, maybe $3.99 is a deal and maybe it is still too much? Let me know what you all think and I will come back and tell you my thoughts.
