FROM HER EYES - MARA HRUBY

Introducing the new and fast rising twenty-two year old artist, Mara Hruby, from Oakland, CA.  She burst onto the scene in the beginning of 2010 playing shows all around the Bay Area and is now releasing her debut EP “From Her Eyes”.  This is her first release of music to the world and it will say a lot about her character and vision as an artist.  Mara Hruby worked on this album for a total of nine months and even went as far as recording and arranging/engineering her own vocals.  As a true artist, she jumps right into her dreams and doesn’t emerge until a full, final, conceptualized, and complete project has risen.  “From Her Eyes” is an EP of cover songs originally recorded by male artists, and each song has represented a moment in her life.  She is covering artists such and Mos Def, Andre 3000, Jamiroquai, even D’Angelo and a few others.  She is a mesmerizing artist that puts on a show with poise and grace, and she’ll bring you into her heart like no other.

JOHN MAYER AND HIS MOUTH...

I really do love John Mayer's music. I have all his CDs and would jump at the chance to see him in concert, if I could afford it.

The only thing that bugs me about him is the way he shoots off his mouth, saying completely random and ridiculous things for attention. In his most recent interview, he admitted he needs to keep his elaborate farces to himself, but will he?

In memory of his reckless speaking, The Huffington Post voted for the "9 Douchiest Things John Mayer Has Ever Said."

To see the photos and quotes, go HERE.

MTV: NO LONGER "MUSIC" TELEVISION

Music videos on many networks have been in decline since the mid-90's, and now MTV is owning up to its present show schedule, dropping the tag-line "Music Television" under the logo.

When was the last time you saw a video on the network? Even the morning wake-up videos around  6 a.m. have become scarce.

Though videos are what made MTV famous back in 1981, their current list of shows, like "Jersey Shore," "16 and Pregnant," and "The Real World,"only feature music in the backgroud. Music televison has become reality television.

NEW ALBUM: RES - BLACK.GIRLS.ROCK!

Black.Girls.Rock! is a true labor of love for Res. Growing up in a household warmed by Marvin Gaye plus being a child of the ‘80s, Res was always eclectic in her musical tastes. While her early days offered electro-laden Neo Soul, Res spent a large portion of her in between years crafting singer/songwriter folk songs. Add in the influences from touring Europe with Gnarls Barkley and the music she is now making has never been heard before. With songs that were previously unreleased from her Geffen days coupled with newly penned hymns of heartache, love, and rebirth, Black.Girls.Rock! is the long-awaited album that will live up to every fan’s expectation. Before Black.Girls.Rock! makes its way into the universe Res will offer a prequel mixtape called a Box Of Chocolates – a collaborative effort with DJ NI** Sky, known by most as Nicole aka ½ of Nina Sky. The mixtape will include remixed unreleased tracks and demos that Res recorded along the way.

Res’ near-decade long career is filled with winding paths and memorable experiences. While she’s no stranger to the hardships of being an artist, Res is simply in love with making music and the world will fall in love once again with Black.Girls.Rock! Her voice, her style, and her sound are a combination lacking in today’s music. While her debut set the tone for the start of the first decade of the new millennium, Black.Girls.Rock! will own the close of it. By now many would have given up, but Res was born to make music. Simply put, “You’re destined to do what you’re destined to do.”

DJ Jazzy Jeff kicked off racist stage?

Legendary party-rocker DJ Jazzy Jeff was kicked off stage during a Kansas City stop on the Bacardi B-Live tour on June 6, due to a racist establishment, the Kansas City Star alleges. According to the paper, "The black community has been in arms about perceived racism at the entertainment district, a place their tax money helped fund." The Jazzy Jeff incident clearly does not help matters for the city.

Apparently, Jeff was instructed by a Power & Light (entertainment) district official to play Top 40 hits. He was several songs into a set of pop records that included songs by Jay-Z, Rihanna and Biz Markie, when his performance was cut short due to an issue with the style of music he was spinning.

"My road manager walked up to me and said they were having problems with the music I was playing," Jeff told the paper. "They said I had to kick Skillz off the stage, change the format of the music I was playing or quit. They said if I continued playing they had 30 cops ready to come escort me offstage. So I stopped."

Jazzy Jeff, who is arguably the world's best party DJ, though he's best known for his affiliation with the Fresh Prince, now known as Will Smith, and for inventing a seminal scratching technique called "transforming," collected the first hip hop Grammy award and spins close to 300 nights a year. This was his first time DJing in Kansas City.

Jon Stephens, an official from the Power & Light district, where the performance took place, contended that the issue was Jeff's volume rather than his selections.

"Obviously we have a desire to book a diversity of acts," Stephens said. "We booked Jazzy Jeff on a Saturday night, the biggest night of the week in the district. We were excited to have him there. It's unfortunate that his sound and management people had problems adhering to the sound and audio rules."

Jeff says they explicitly took issue with music he played and complained about his hype man, Skillz, before threatening to forcibly escort him off stage.

"They said they didn't like Skillz' posture. They said he made gang-like signs and grabbed at his genitals," Jeff stated. "I play rock, funk, soul, pop, hip-hop, reggae. I don't play for a certain genre, race or gender. I play for music lovers... I didn't understand what element they were talking about. I looked out in the crowd and it was multicultural, but about 75 percent white. Everyone was having a great time. I wondered what was so offensive. I never had a race issue. I didn't know how to feel. I was playing [Biz Markie's] 'Just a Friend.' Is that offensive? What element? It's uncomfortable when you feel unwanted."

Jeff stated that he intends to return to Kansas City to play for the fans who missed out on seeing him perform.
