POSSIBLE CHANGES FOR AZ'S ANTI-IMMIGRATION LAW
I must confess I do not know the ins and outs to this controversial Arizona immigration law that is a hot button topic all over the country right now. I do know from the many facebook posts, blogs and news reports I have encountered the part that seems to be causing the problem is requires law enforcement to detain anyone they feel could be an illegal immigrant. FOR REAL? In this country of ours, this melting pot of all the world's ethnicities and cultures, who and what does an illegal immigrant look or talk like? Do you have special government issued glasses that can sense an illegal immigrant by their body heat? Ok I am playing (or am I?), but this just sounds like a bad idea and can and I am sure will lead to racial profiling. I am afraid this would be used wrongly by some law enforcers to detain people who otherwise wouldn't be detained. This just sounds a little like Jim Crow 2010 to me. Maybe I am wrong. I understand in the state of Arizona that illegal immigration is a problem but detaining people who may or may not be in the U.S. legally I do not believe is the answer. I am sure this will play out for sometime, let's hope they come up with a better answer to their immigration dilemma then the one that's currently on the table.

PHOENIX (AP) - The fight over Arizona's immigration law showed no signs of letting up Friday as the federal judge who blunted its force faced threats and the Republican governor who signed it considered changes to address any faults.

VOGUE RACIST?
Cameroon born fashion photographer Mario Epanya recently submitted a proposal to Vogue to launch a new magazine to further their global branding - Vogue Africa. Sadly it was turned down. I and the fashion public has to ask themselves - WHY? Why was this well put together and m uch needed idea shot down by Vogue's publisher Conde Nast. The rejection has caused outrage all over the world asking Vogue why isn't this idea being put into their magazine family. Vogue has magazines all over the world, not just the U.S. version many of us Americans see on the shelves at the grocery store, magazine stands and book stores. Many countries have their own version of the fashion bible. With so many beautiful models, designers and the rich culture that Africa holds why oh why Vogue did you say no.. I know ther is no Vogue Europe and there is no Vogue Asia or North America. Vogue has gone by countries and not a continent but I still would like to know your "many" reasons why this was not a good idea - seeing that your brand usually lacks diversity. I know you have sprinkled some pepper here and there on your covers but I do not think that your pages truly reflect the diversity in the global fashion industry. Go ahead I am waiting, while you make up something.

NEW YORK CITY SETTLES SEAN BELL LAWSUIT
New York City will pay more than $7 million to settle a civil lawsuit brought by the estate of a man killed by police outside a Queens' nightclub in 2006 and by his two friends, who were seriously wounded, a spokeswoman for the city's Law Department said Tuesday.
The estate of Sean Bell, who was killed in the shooting, will receive $3.25 million, Joseph Guzman receive $3 million and Trent Benefield will get $900,000, said Kate Ahlers.
"The city regrets the loss of life in this tragic case, and we share our deepest condolences with the Bell family," Michael Cardozo, attorney for the New York City Law Department. "We hope that all parties can find some measure of closure by this settlement."
Bell, Guzman and Benefield were shot after an altercation with plainclothes detectives outside the Queens nightclub where Bell's bachelor party was held on the night before his wedding. Bell died at the scene, and Guzman and Benefield were seriously wounded.
Accounts of the incident varied. Undercover officers, who were investigating the club regarding prostitution allegations, said they identified themselves as police, but witnesses and the wounded men said they did not. Police said they believed at least one of the men had a gun, but no gun was found. And one of the officers said the Bell, instead of obeying his command to stop, hit him with his vehicle.
The incident quickly became a touchstone for those who believe police -- in New York and elsewhere -- have a record of excessive force, particularly against black men. Bell, 23, was African-American, as were the two men wounded and two of the three police officers.
The officers fired 50 shots in just a few seconds.
The shooting sparked street protests, and Mayor Michael Bloomberg called it "inexplicable" and "unacceptable," saying "it sounds to me like excessive force was used."
In March 2007, three of the police officers were indicted on multiple charges.
Detectives Gescard Isnora, Marc Cooper and Michael Oliver -- who fired his gun 31 times that night, pausing to reload his weapon -- were acquitted of all charges in April 2008
Justice Arthur Cooperman of New York State Supreme Court said inconsistent testimony and other problems "had the effect of eviscerating the credibility" of key prosecution witnesses, and that some testimony "just didn't make sense."
"The police response with respect to each defendant was not proved to be criminal -- i.e., beyond a reasonable doubt. Questions of carelessness and incompetence must be left to other forums," Cooperman said, according to a transcript released by his office.
Citing insufficient evidence, the Department of Justice announced in February that it would not pursue federal civil rights charges against police officers involved.
The department issued a statement saying that after a "careful and thorough" review, there is not enough evidence to prove that New York Police Department detectives "acted willfully" when they opened fire on Bell and his friends.
In May, Rev. Al Sharpton led a large protest in response to the Department of Justice decision. Sharpton and Bell's fiancee and parents were among more than 200 people arrested in New York City.
Sharpton responded to Tuesday's decision in a written statement.
"This in no way mitigates or repairs the permanent damage done to them and the pain it has caused them forever nor does it diminish the outrage in the community," Sharpton said. "We will always pursue justice for the family of Sean Bell, Joseph Guzman and Trent Benefield."

BLAKSTAR MOVIE REVIEW - INCEPTION
If you have not already seen this movie - ummm WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR? I had the pleasure of seeing it twice this weekend and the only thing better than Inception is seeing it for the second time. I do not want to tell you what the movie is about at all - I thought by the previews I had seen it was about one thing and it is about something completely different. Trust me it's much more fun to just watch the movie and not have a clue what it is about. The movie lets you know within minutes what it's about - but the twists and turns will keep you guessing and keep your eyes wide open. You will not want to go to blink as to not miss anything.
This movie is the kind of feature film that makes me believe that some people in Hollywood still know how to make a REAL movie. I suggest you go to the bathroom before it starts - you will not want to miss anything.
I will tell you some of the reasons why it is in my top movie list and will become apart of my dvd collection once it is out on disc.
- The movie is intriguing
- Provokes thought
- Actions packed from beginning to end you are sitting on the edge of your seat
- Good acting
- Good script/screen play etc
- GREAT special effects
- GREAT movie soundtrack (the music in the movie will have you ready to pass out from the intense suspense - this is a good thing lol)
- GREAT cinematography
- Good plot (that might kinda be the same as script/screen play but #shrug)
Go see it! and let us know what you think!

GA. COPS REPEATEDLY TASER 57-YEAR-OLD TEACHER WHO CALLED FOR HELP
Article written by Jeff Mays for BlackVoices
A criminal investigation should be opened for two officers who Tasered and pepper-sprayed a 57-year-old Georgia woman who called police to report a prowler.
Janice Wells, a third-grade teacher, called officers in rural Georgia for help. Instead, she ended up on the ground screaming and crying, begging officers to stop shocking her with the Taser.
"All of it's just unreal to me. I was scared to death," Wells told the Atlanta Journal Constitution. "He kept Tasing me and Tasing me. My fingernails are still burned. My leg, back and my butt had a long scar on it for days."
The horrible incident was captured on one of the officer's dash camera. In the video, officer Ryan Smith is shown driving to the scene. He exits the vehicle with Taser in hand and immediately begins using it on Wells, who screams in pain.
"Get in the car. Get in the car. You're going to get it again," Smith says in the video.
"I ain't do nothin'," Wells says between shocks.
The Tasering occurred after another officer, Tim Murphy of Richland Police Department, used pepper spray while trying to arrest the woman.
Both men lost their jobs as a result. Smith resigned, and Murphy was fired. Wells has retained a lawyer and should exercise her right to sue for police abuse.
However, after looking at the video, it seems that law enforcement authorities should investigate the use of excessive force.

HP "SLATE" vs MAC "iPAD"
So it hurt my heart that iPAD has NO USB ports, no memory card reader and for what I needed it for virtually is just an over sized iPhone - you just can't make calls. It even runs on the iPhone OS (operating system) - this made me extremely sad. I LOVE MAC but I feel that the iPad was rushed. Now enter in it's opponent HP's Slate - from the specs and info I have heard about it.. I think I might be getting the Slate and not the iPad (shhh I know made me sad all over again). I need MAC to step it up - why no USB ports? what if I want to hook stuff up to it - not everything is wireless at this point. DANG I can't even hook up my iPod *sucks teeth*. Check out the specs below, and if you end up getting a slate please let us know what you think about it. :)

KING WHO? - COMMENTARY ON LEBRON JAMES
So I am sure I'm not the only person who was not happy for many reasons that Lebron decided to go to Miami and not contiue on with the Cavs. I had a lot of reasons and was thinking I should blog about it but was having trouble putting it all into words... well I just read a blog on yahoo and they summed it up. The grass isn't always greener huh? Oh and this is how I feel about Lebron - my views are not necesarrily those of BLAKstar Media or http://www.blakstartalk.com/ or any of it's affiliates. (sorry you know we have to do the this is my opinion only blurb lol) This blog was on point! - MeaLee

The King?
Of what, exactly?
Hype? Wasting time? Stacking the deck?
Check, check and double-check.
So LeBron James is going to Miami. Man, did he ever pick the right place to win. Just don't forget why people say to be careful what you wish for.
Because when James finally does win it all, chances are good he will be as much a follower as a leader, a bigger, better, badder version of Scottie Pippen, another prince who collected a fistful of rings yet was never really cut out to be king. He could do worse, of course. The shame is James could have done better.
A real king would have dug in his heels in Cleveland and redoubled his effort to patch the cracks in the foundation of a franchise that's already spent more than seven seasons and hundreds of millions trying to build him a throne. That's what Michael Jordan, Larry Bird, Magic Johnson and Kobe Bryant did. Maybe even give the Cavs a hometown discount, taking less money than he was worth to free up cap space down the road, the way Tim Duncan did.
NotLeBron.
He's lighting out for South Beach to hang with superfriends Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh, while the rest of us recover from an hour-long infomercial that was conceived and choreographed by his advisers, then aided and abetted by ESPN. The announcement was expected to draw in audiences rivaling Tiger Woods' apology and the O.J. verdict — the two biggest non-sports sports stories ever. And just like those two, James is probably the only guy coming out of it who actually believed what he was saying.
Even the kids from the local Boys & Girls Club stuck in the background as props — who would have guessed that wealthy Greenwich, Conn., even had a chapter? — knew that just because James has a tattoo that says "Loyalty" doesn't make it so.
The most telling moment came when he was asked whether it would have been "sweeter" winning a championship in Cleveland, just down the interstate from Akron, the town James grew up in.
"I think championships are championships, and you can't look at it as saying, 'Well, if I would have did it somewhere else, it would have been sweeter,'" he replied. "Because, I mean, it's a championship. A lot of people don't get there.
"When you get to that point and you win a championship, you can't say, 'Wow, I wish I would have did it somewhere else.' That makes no sense to me, because you put a lot of hard work into it to get to that point and I have not got there yet.
"But I'm going to do everything in my power," he added, "to lead that Miami franchise to a second one."
If nothing about the announcement surprised Wade, that last part should qualify as news. He'd never admit viewing Bosh and even James as sidekicks — officially they're equals, for the moment anyway — but it's telling that they wound up coming to him. Plus, Wade was the man in Miami when the Heat won their first title, although he had plenty of help from Shaquille O'Neal. (more after the jump)

I am big kid.. so what lol. I really want to see this movie it looks extremely cute and the new theme song by Pharrell Williams I think is cute and catchy and the beat is real nice too. LINDSAY LOHAN SENTENCED TO 90 DAYS!
Ms. Lohan was sentenced earlier this week to 90 days jail time for violating her probation from her 2007 drug case. Lindsay failed to attend alcohol education classes which resulted in this recent jail sentence.I'm not sure if I believe that she will do the 90 days let alone even a third of the time. In LA true Hollywood style she will probably do a very very small amount of time then be on probation for a year or so and pay some money. I would be shocked if she did even 2 weeks. We shall see.

AVATAR RELAUNCH WITH EXTRA SCENES
James Cameron is on the verge of relaunching his mega blockbuster hit AVATAR LOS ANGELES (AP) - James Cameron is sending audiences on an extended tour of "Avatar" as his blockbuster returns to theaters next month with eight minutes of extra footage. It will be a limited release and it is estimated that a few hundred theaters will show it. Hmmm.. I'm not sure how I feel about this. Now you all know I LOVE AVATAR and it is one of my favorite movies I have seen it five times (2 in the theater and 3 times on dvd). I am not sure I would go to the movies to see just another 8 minutes of the film - then again I just might, the 3-D was awesome and it did add to the movie. [The 3-D] made me feel as if I was right there in the movie on Pandora. Anywho from a business standpoint James Cameron is a smart man. He may not have won an Academy Award for his movie but I guess that doesn't matter when you are busy counting all the 0's in the checks you get off the movie lol.

EMMY'S LOVE CONAN MORE THAN JAY?
Personally I think the whole Conan vs. Jay Leno thing is a mess. I do like Conan over Jay and I feel that once Jay said he was retiring then shrug stay retired. I think NBC was wrong from saying it was ok for Jay to say "Oh, my bad I don't want to retire" after plans had been made and Conan was to take over the Tonight Show. Then to tell Coco umm oops you can't have the show now. Conan will be ok and by the Emmy nods he received I'm not the only one who thinks he will come out on top.

NEW YORK (AP) - The Emmys are standing with Team Coco, snubbing Jay Leno.
O'Brien's short-lived reign at NBC's "Tonight" show earned him an Emmy nod for best variety, music or comedy series. Leno, who returned to "Tonight" following the failure of his prime-time show, was not nominated on Thursday.
But if it makes Leno feel any better, David Letterman was snubbed in the same category - for the first time in 17 years.
NBC submitted both versions of "Tonight" for Emmys consideration, letting the TV academy decide what to include in the category. They went with O'Brien, who was nominated alongside "Saturday Night Live" and shows hosted by Jon Stewart, Stephen Colbert and Bill Maher. O'Brien's final "Tonight" show was also nominated for best writing in a variety, music or comedy series.
"We congratulate Conan and all of our nominees on their creative accomplishments and their deserved nominations," NBC said in a statement.

10 Tips To Save Pro Athletes From Disaster
Athletes are good at a lot of things. Running, jumping, swimming, dribbling, passing, dunking... but the one area where they don't particularly excel? Staying out of trouble. So theBVX made a list we know can help.
Seriously, there's not a week passes that someone in the MLB, NBA, NFL, NHL, or some other pro sports organization isn't getting into trouble for something. Most recently, NFL quarterback JaMarcus Russell got arrested for possession of codeine syrup after police conducted a small raid on his home in Mobile, Alabama on Monday night. It's just the latest thing that could jeopardize Russell's once-promising career.
With all of that in mind, theBVX wants to help athletes stay out of trouble. So we put together a list of 10 rules that every athlete needs to know. Follow all of them and we guarantee that your mug shot won't be the first thing people see on your Wikipedia page. Are you game?
Rule No. 1: Stay. Out. Of. The. Strip. Club.
The Offenders: Adam "Pacman" Jones, Vince Young, Stephen Jackson
The Reason: Did you know that, as a professional athlete, you're 78 percent less likely to get arrested on any given night if you're not at a strip club? Okay, so we made that up. But we're pretty sure one like it does exist. Think about everything that could go wrong at a strip club; fights, assaults, shoot-outs. And that's for people who aren't rich. Stay out of the strip club and you'll guaranteed to dodge these mishaps. Plain. And. Simple.
Rule No. 2: Don't get married... until after you retire!
The Offenders: Tiger Woods, Kobe Bryant, Shaquille O'Neal
The Reason: As a pro athlete, you're gonna spend days, weeks, months, even years at a time on the road. So while you might love your wife and think about her every time "Best I Ever Had"comes on, there'll be a point when that love is tested. And if you're not gonna see your wife much anyway, what's the point of getting married? Skip the future alimony hearings, keep your money and wait until you're done playing (both on and off the court) to settle down.
Rule No. 3: Unless you're having sex -- don't stay strapped.
The Offenders: Gilbert Arenas, Plaxico Burress, Shaun Rodgers
The Reason: What is so hard about this, fellas? Guns are only going to get you into trouble. We understand that you are a target now that you're making millions of dollars -- but you're also gonna be a target in prison if you get caught packing. Not guns on the inside homie. Stick to staying strapped in the bedroom, not the club. Word to Weezy.
Rule No. 4: Don't do drugs. Ever. Not once. Not once in awhile. Not once in a blue moon. Not ever.
The Offenders: Michael Phelps, JaMarcus Russell, Barry Bonds
The Reason: Weed, coke, ecstasy, meth, codeine, anabolic steroids -- this goes for any kind of drugs. Hell, if you have trouble sleeping at night and want to pop two Tylenol PMs, you'd better think twice. (And then say no.)
Rule No. 5: Cut off at least half of your "friends" once your turn pro.
The Offenders: Michael Vick, Jamal Lewis, Allen Iverson
The Reason: This may just be the hardest rule on this list to follow. But here's the deal: Once you get rich, half your friends will be working double-time just to try and bring you down. Dog-fighting, drug-dealing, wild partying -- your friends want a piece of everything and if you don't give it to them? Well, they might hate you. But they also might hate you if you disappear from a club one night and they get shot three minutes later. Just sayin'.
Rule No. 6: Hire a driver. Not Eddy Curry's driver. But a driver nonetheless.
The Offenders: Charles Barkley, Ronnie Brown, Carmelo Anthony, Al Jefferson, Zach Randolph, Vincent Jackson, Donte Stallworth, Joey Porter, Dwight "Doc" Gooden, Chris Chelios
The Reason: Don't drink and drive. Or smoke and drive. Or drink and smoke and drive. In fact, even if you don't drink or smoke or do any number of things that could get you into trouble on the road, don't drive anyway. The media will filet you for speeding nowadays. So stay in your own lane: the backseat.
Rule No. 7: Watch what you say on Twitter.
The Offenders: Brandon Jennings, Charlie Villanueva, Gilbert Arenas
The Reason: Ask us if we love the new Drake album. Tell us about how bored you are at the airport. Thank all the fans for coming out to the big game. But don't say anything that you wouldn't say to a reporter. And for pete's sake -- don't do it at halftime!
Rule No. 8: Don't take naked pictures of yourself on your cell phone.
The Offenders: Greg Oden, Ashley Cole, George Hill
The Reason: Dude, are you for real? It's bad enough that we've got to screen every email we get at work for NSFW material. Now we've gotta worry about our lunch hour turning into a sausage party because you can't keep your clothes on? Cover up. PLEASE!
Rule No. 9: Don't have sex with intoxicated college girls in bathroom stalls at bars.
The Offenders: Ben Roethlisberger
The Reason: If we need to explain this one, you're probably in more trouble than we thought... Next!
Rule No. 10: Before you do anything, think -- "What would Mike Tyson do?" Then do the opposite.
The Offender: Mike Tyson
The Reason: Rape, DUI, assault, biting part of Evander Holyfield's ear off. It's safe to say Mike Tyson isn't a good role model for kids. But he is a good role model for you, pro athlete. If all else fails, think about what he would do. And then decide that you probably shouldn't do the same. It might not get you a role in "The Hangover" but it'll prevent you from having one for the rest of your life thanks to one stupid move.
